Our History

The Club was formed by Donna Astell and Leigh Pignatelli in 1994 under the name of Windy Hill Netball. Two teams were entered - an under 11s and under 13s.

The following year, on 11 July 1996, application was made to become an incorporated association and on 13 December 1996, Windy Hill Netball Inc. was duly registered.

In the original application for incorporation, the stated purpose of the Club was:

To provide an enthusiastic environment in which children can best develop their skills through the provision of quality coaching, ongoing coach education and a well organised, unified committee.

On 23 November 2011 a Special General Meeting of members was held to approve:
  • a new constitution (to bring it in line with the Model Rules from Consumer Affairs Victoria) and;
  • to change the Club's name to Essendon Netball Club Inc.
The new constitution was formally approved by Consumer Affairs Victoria on 23 November 2011 and the new name came into effect on 2 March 2012.

Since inception, the Club has grown from 2 teams to 29 teams, including senior teams.  30 years after the formation of the Club, we still have players from those original teams playing and coaching with us today.
